Mayones Cali 4 Short Scale Bass, Ebony Fretboard, Swamp Ash Body, Apple Top

As they say, big things come in small packages. This short-scale, 17.17″ Cali 4 bass from Mayones is the perfect portable bass. Sounding equally good on stage and in the studio as it does during silent practice (it has a dedicated headphone output so you can plug right in and practice anywhere you are without disturbing anyone – super cool!), its fabulous tone, stunning looks and exceptional playability make it a professional-grade instrument, through and through.

This particular bass is a custom order and part of a small run of Cali 4s Mayones spec’d out for us. This one features a custom “raw” finish, a swamp ash body, and – you read that right – an apple top! How often do you get to see wood from an apple tree used on a bass?!

The electronics are all Mayones. A 3-band EQ preamp and Mayones Noble-4-B pickup give it a P-bass on steroids sort of vibe. The playability, as you’d expect with any Mayones, is absolutely stellar and it really doesn’t even require much adjustment to play the smaller scale length.

A perfect balance of tone and convenience, the Cali can really fill a lot of roles and make life just that much easier for bass players.

It might be half the size of our custom series basses, but it carries the same design philosophy & great tone, playability and highest attention to built quality and ergonomy.

Neck-through-body construction (in both wenge and maple versions), beautiful top woods, highest quality fit & finish – no step has been skipped to ensure that Cali are 100% up to Mayones quality you expect.

It has also one additional feature – Cali is a perfect travel companion due to its compact size and built-in headphone amp. It’s easy to carry, pack and set up to play everywhere & every time.

Our goal and intention is to save as much wood as we can in our production pipeline – Cali is built from leftovers of quality woods we use for our full-size instruments, which are too small to use in a regular-sized instrument. It’s available in a limited number of copies per year.

Our in-house guitar tech will inspect, test, set up, and clean all of our instruments on site prior to shipping. All of our instruments are guaranteed to be fully functional upon arrival.
