This guitar is aggressive and super fast to play and if you’re not careful, it could just bite your head off, too… The irony, of course, being that a Hydra is a many-headed serpent from Greek mythology. This guitar, however, is headless. Easy to transport (especially on airplanes), perfectly balanced, and easy on the shoulders and back, there are some definite advantages to the slimmed down and sleek design concepts in this guitar. Blazing lead licks up and down the fretboard are a real breeze while complicated chord shapes are still easy to get every note to ring out perfectly. Even if this is your first foray into the world of extended range guitars, you’re likely to feel right at home on this bad boy. The neck is extremely comfortable, the pickups are hot and in-your-face, and the construction is absolutely flawless… All it needs is a master to tame the dragon.

The multi-scale design is great for anybody that might be looking to drop-tune for some songs. Even if you’re just playing in standard tuning it provides a fantastic feeling of string-to-string balance that simply can’t be achieved with having every string at the same scale length. The low-B string being at 27″ is great whether you’re keeping it tuned to B or dropping it to A# or A. It keeps the B-string from being floppy and wobbly. Meanwhile, your high-E string won’t sound like a whiny dying cat from being stretched out too far. It’ll be at a perfect scale length and will still maintain some fullness and body to the note, as a result. It takes virtually no time to get used to playing one of these and requires no changes to your playing technique. You can finger chords just as you normally would and really just close your eyes and play and you’ll find your fingers naturally going exactly where they need to with minimal effort.

The Bare Knuckle Aftermath set in this are searing hot and ready to melt faces. They’re definitely designed with heavy rock and metal in mind. They can handle any high-gain situation you throw at them with ease. The upper mids are distinct and articulate to help this guitar cut through any mix. With a symmetrically hand-wound twin screw coil design, the Aftermath bridge is powered by 3 custom size ceramic magnets. The bottom-end responds quickly to pick attack and tracks fast riffing extremely accurately, mids are focused and intense for ultimate punch no matter how dense the mix or how low the tuning, and highs are precise and articulate.
