This is a bass player’s dream. The fretwork is impeccable, the neck is slim from front to back but doesn’t feel like a toothpick. It’s comfortable even if you are new to the 6-string world. The 34.25″ scale and excellent build quality keeps the B-string tight, but by not making this a 35″ scale length you also don’t sacrifice the tone of the G and C-strings. Sometimes C-strings on extended scale basses can sound a bit nasally and whiny. Like a dying cat (Gary Willis said that and we’d had to agree in some instances). But not with this Mayo! The C-string is still nice and full and harmonically rich while the B-string is tight and punchy. All the strings in between feel pretty great too! 🙂

Growly, punchy, and snappy, this bass is great for funkers and rockers alike. The Delano pickups are very modern sounding. They have loads of punch and are very tight while also being very clear and transparent. We like pairing them with the Aguilar pre-amp which does have a little bit more character to it. The result is a tone that is decidedly modern and hi-fi but also not sterile.
