Spector basses have been at the top of most modern bass players’ lists for decades at this point. Music Store Live is thrilled to bring in some of the finest basses out there today. Spector USA represents the attention to detail we’ve come to really appreciate here at the shop. This NS-4 is a masterpiece in blending a functional tool with something that is a true work of art. We went with the Doug Wimbish signature neck shape on this one which will feel instantly familiar to Jazz bass lovers. It’s a 1.5″ nut width and, well, feels like a j-bass neck… just with a level of refinement that you can really only get from a USA Spector, and of course, a sound all of its own.

The bass feels absolutely incredible from top to bottom. Every single detail is clearly meticulously worked on and we really love how all of the options we selected for this one have come together. The HAZ preamp and EMG soapbar pickups definitely provide a powerful tone with loads of versatility. At full blast and with your foot on the accelerator, this beast really roars. The tone is punchy as all heck and can handle anything from heavy distortion to slap to fingerstyle. It’s going to be a tone for bass players that want to support the music but also be noticed. It growls like a polar bear that just stepped on a thumbtack. But also, as I mentioned before, it’s really versatile. All of that aggressiveness can be dialed way back for a sound that is just simply warm, round, and gives the music you’re playing in a big bass cushion to sit on.

Ultimately, we think this bass is going to be loved by rockers and funkers alike. The quilt maple top and swamp ash wings provide a bright and snappy tone. We’ve got a maple neck with an ebony fretboard to help define that top end even further. Without sacrificing any low end and “body” to the sound, this bass was definitely designed to have a bright tone. We find it’s always easier to take out treble frequencies than it is to try to add them back in. You can easily dial back the brightness on this, but it’s also really great to have it on tap for when you need it. Having a neck-thru construction means that, as expected, you’ve got all the sustain you’re likely to ever need and it also contributes to the inherently growly and full sound of this bass. The fretwork is absolutely a thing to behold and achieving very low action is absolutely no problem whatsoever on this.

If you want to just lay down a solid clean groove, or load your sound up with distortion and get nasty with it, the EMG and HAZ preamp combo give you all of that right at your fingertips. This one’s geared towards the sort of player that wants a full bass tone that will carry and support the music but also wants to do more than just stand in the background. You’ll get noticed with this bass, and that’s not just because it’s so beautiful. You will be heard, felt, and seen with this bad boy. This one is absolute perfection in every way. You’re going to get compliments on how it looks but, more importantly, how it sounds. No doubt about it!

The NS-4 offers all of the features that have made the Spector name famous around the globe. The extremely comfortable, fully carved body is crafted from solid figured maple. A 3 piece maple neck runs through the entire length of the instrument and features a 24 fret ebony fingerboard with Spector’s signature Crown inlays. Outfitted with a solid brass bridge and nut, premium EMG DC pickups and an upgraded active tone circuit, NS-4 basses are equipped to hold down the low-end on the world’s biggest stages.
